There are 11.8 million people in Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, and West Virginia.
It would be a significantly lower number that are actually Cable Subscribers in those states.
ESPN thinks it has the Subscribers in Texas covered with the Longhorn Network. ESPN will look at the possibility of adding about 3.5 million subscribers as not worth the effort to get carriage in those states. I don't know who the Big XII adds because they need a lot more subscriber potential. I have suggested Colorado State and New Mexico.
But if they aren't careful, they'll make their Tier 1 product watered down with members that don't bring ratings. It's a tough position to be in. It's not too dissimilar to the Southwest Conference in 1990.
